The Select > Color Range command can be used to select very general
tonal ranges
such as highlights, mid tones and shadows. The magic wand tool
is very useful in selecting ranges of colors and tones. But there is no
tool for the selection of tonal ranges by their numeric values. The
digital tonal range goes from 0 to 255. If you wanted to select all pixels
that fall within 115 to 140, there is no built in Photoshop tool that does this.
However, there are JavaScript programs on the
Support page
that you can download that will allow you to precisely select pixels that fall
within a specific numeric range.
