File Type: Layered TIFF file
File Extension: *.tif
Purpose: This is a low resolution version of the layered TIFF file
used in the Tone Management System example. However, because of the
layers, it is 271 KB in size. Figure 1 shows the color version of the
image.
Right click the Right click to Save Target link. Click Save
Target As in the pop up menu. Follow your web browser's instructions for
saving this file onto your computer. Make sure you remember where you save
it. The file name is tz-tms-example-1.tif. If you rename the file,
do not change the extension. Leave it .tif. Adobe Photoshop®
does not require you to save this file in its directory. After
downloading, if prompted to Open the file or Close the download dialog box,
close the dialog box.
Figure 1. Layered TIFF File
The format of this file is TIFF and it contains all the layers used in the
Tone Management System Example. This file was created in Photoshop CS on a
Microsoft Windows®-based computer. If your version of Photoshop
supports layered TIFF files, you should be able to open this file.
When the file is open, the three color sampler targets
may not be visible. To activate them, either open any of the adjustment
layers, or, press the letter i on your keyboard to activate the Eyedropper tool
.
If you wish to compare the tone of the color sampler targets to the values
stated on the web site, be sure to set the Eyedropper tool sample size to Point
sample. You should come very close for targets 1 and 3. However,
because target 2 is on the edge of very different tones and because this file is
a much lower resolution than the original, you will probably not match target
two.
To see the Levels adjustment, open the Levels adjustment layer dialog box and
change the Channel drop down box to Red.
