Channel Mixer for Black and White conversion

File Type:  Adobe Photoshop® Channel Mixer adjustment

File Extension:  *.cha
Purpose:  Converts a color RGB image to a black and white RGB image while maintaining measured luminance.


Download the File

Click the Download button.  Follow your web browser's instructions for saving this file onto your computer.  Make sure you remember where you save it.  The file name is tz-channel-mixer-mcx.cha.  If you rename the file, do not change the extension.  Leave it .cha.  Photoshop does not require you to save this file in its directory.  After downloading, if prompted to Open the file or Close the download dialog box, close the dialog box.
 

Apply the Adjustment

  1. Create a Channel Mixer adjustment layer by clicking Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Channel Mixer.
  2. Name the adjustment layer and click OK.  Any name can be used, but the name Black and White may be useful.
  3. Click the Load button on the Channel Mixer dialog box.
  4. Browse till you find the file.  The default name is tz-channel-mixer-mcx.cha.
  5. Highlight the file and click Load.  The Channel Mixer dialog box should look like Figure 1.
  6. Click OK to close the dialog box.
  7. Leave the adjustment layer's blending mode Normal.
