In this section of the web site we cover some of the basics of digital photography. We start with the Myths page and the real facts behind them. On the Pixels page, we define pixel and describe how it differs from traditional film photography. On the Resolution page, we define film, digital, printer and monitor resolution. The File Format page describes the more common file formats used in digital photography. On the Profiles page, we explore the sometimes confusing world of color models, color spaces, color gamuts and color profiles. On the Channels and Bit Depth page, we discuss how computers use channels to store a pixel's color and tonal information and how it relates to bit depth. The Ranges and Channels page explains the difference between color ranges and color channels.
