Question. When I select a style from the drop down box, I get
strange results. Why?
- Answer
- Try holding down the Ctrl (Command) key while clicking the
browser's Refresh icon.
If that does now work, try clearing the browser's cache. If that
still does not work, try deleting temporary cookies. In Internet
Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options to clear temporary Internet
files (cache) and cookies. In Firefox, click Tools > Clear Private
Data.
Question. I understand there is a drop down box where I can
select different styles, but I cannot see the drop down box. Why?
- Answer
- The web site feature that allows you to select different styles
is written in JavaScript. If JavaScript has been disabled in your
browser, firewall or other software that controls your access to the
Internet, then you will not be able to see the drop down box.
However, the web site will be displayed using its default style.
Question. What is the difference between the style selection
choice on the web site and the browser's ability to change text size?
- Answer
- If you wish to use your browser to control font size, select any
of the browser controlled options in the style selection drop down
box. This allows you to control the size of the text using your
browser's text sizing or zooming features. Please note, using your
browser to resize the web site might cause the top banner, sidebar,
images, etc. to be resized also. This can cause these areas to take
up too much of your monitor's viewing area.
Question. I can see the web site's style selection drop down
box, but when I pick a style, nothing happens. Why?
- Answer
- If you open the web site and pick RGB-Medium Font, there will be
no change as RGB-Medium Font is the default style. If you pick any
other style and nothing changes, the browser may not be detecting
the page has changed and is displaying the page from its cache. You
should be able to refresh the page from the web server by holding
down the Ctrl (Command) key while clicking the browser's Refresh
icon.
Question. When I pick a style from the drop down box, it only
works on that page. I have to reselect it on every page I visit.
What is going on?
- Answer
- The style selection feature uses a session cookie (a file) to
store your chosen style. If session cookies are disabled you will
have to select the desired style on each page you visit because the
web site will not be able to store your choice.
Question. When I pick a style from the drop down box, I get a
message about a cookie. What does this mean?
- Answer
- The style selection feature uses a session cookie (a file) to
store your chosen style. Your software that controls your access
to the Internet is detecting that the web site is trying to store
your chosen style in its session cookie.
Question. I chose a style and it worked, but when I went back to
the web site, my chosen style was not used. Why?
- Answer
- The style selection feature uses a session cookie (a file) to
store your chosen style. The safest type of cookie is a session
cookie that expires once you close your browser. Because the
session cookie expires (is deleted) once you close your browser, the
next time you visit the web site, you will have to re-select your
desired style
Question. Collapsible lists do not work. Why?
- Answer
- The web site feature that makes its lists collapsible is written
in JavaScript. If JavaScript has been disabled in your browser,
firewall or other software that controls your access to the
Internet, then the collapsible feature will not work. However, the
lists will be shown fully expanded, so all the content will be
visible.
Question. I do not see a print friendly icon.
- Answer
- The web site's print friendly icon is a darkroom enlarger
and is located in the upper right corner of any page that has a
print friendly version. If the page does not have a print friendly
version, then the icon will not be shown.
Also, the software that controls your access to the Internet
(browser, firewall, etc.) may be treating the print friendly icon as
a pop-up or banner ad (which it is not) and preventing it from being
displayed. You should still see the words, Print Friendly, on those
pages that have a print friendly version.
